AS HOMELESSNESS GROWS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, OVER 2,300 CANADIANS GATHER IN MONTREAL TO SHARE SOLUTIONS
MONTREAL – As the homelessness crisis continues to surge, exacerbated by global economic uncertainty and the increasing cost of living, over 2,300 community leaders, front line workers, funders, policy makers researchers and people with lived experience of homelessness are gathering to share solutions to tackle the crisis.
The Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH) is hosting its 2025 Conference on Ending Homelessness from October 28 to 30 in Montreal, in partnership with the Movement to End Homelessness in Montreal (MMFIM).
Homelessness has doubled between 2018 and 2024, while unsheltered homelessness has increased by 300 per cent in the same period, according to the federal point in time count.
“The scale of this humanitarian crisis is daunting. These aren’t just numbers, they’re people being forced into homelessness, caught between a raging shortage of affordable housing and exploding cost of living,” says Tim Richter, President & CEO of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH).
“Canadians believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home. Our movement is laser-focused on making that a reality. We know what’s needed, and we’re gathering in Montreal this week to share solutions, build momentum, and accelerate our work to prevent, reduce and ultimately end homelessness.”
The annual conference, now in its 12th year, is welcoming a record number of participants.
“The movement to end homelessness in Canada is growing, and we are constantly learning and improving as we continue our urgent efforts to ensure everyone has a roof over their head,” says Richter.
The conference will feature more than 250 speakers and 100 breakout sessions focused on sharing effective solutions, lessons learned, ongoing challenges and how the movement is working to find homes for everyone in Canada.
Keynote speakers will include:
- Steven Page; Singer, songwriter and mental health advocate: Tuesday, 28 October, at 12:45 p.m.
- Loretta Ross; Civil rights activist, public intellectual, scholar, and organizer: Wednesday, 29 October, at 9:00 a.m.
