Job Title: Data Advisor
Reports to: Data Lead

Defining Success for this Position
Reporting to the Data Lead, the Data Advisor is a proactive and results-driven professional dedicated to leveraging data as a critical tool to end homelessness in Canada. This role is essential in translating community needs into actionable data strategies that align with the overarching goals of the CAEH.
The Data Advisor works with communities and internal CAEH teams to develop robust data collection and analysis practices, fostering a culture of data literacy and continuous improvement. By facilitating training and support, the Data Advisor empowers local organizations to act on real-time data by making informed decisions that result in reducing homelessness. With a strong focus on capacity building, performance management, and knowledge mobilization, the Data Advisor plays a pivotal role in creating a unified approach to homelessness data, creating a single source of truth on the state of homelessness in Canada.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and Maintain Data Systems: Develop and operate a data infrastructure that enables real-time data collection and analysis, ensuring alignment with measurable and sustainable homelessness reduction goals and targets.
- Communication: Produce compelling and intuitive data visualizations (e.g., data dashboards) to convey data insights to audiences with varying degrees of data literacy.
- Training and Support: Support various stakeholders to collect and use data effectively to continuously improve homelessness system responses, measuring progress toward reducing homelessness in real-time.
- Performance Measurement: Create, test, implement, and evaluate data tools to accurately measure increases and decreases in homelessness (e.g., run charts, projection tools, dashboards).
- Strategic Planning: Support the CAEH strategic plan metrics, assist with internal data collection processes, and manage internal data systems.
- Data Quality: Monitor and evaluate data collection and management practices to ensure accuracy and reliability in data reporting and analysis.
- Resource Development: Support the creation of educational materials and resources that promote data literacy and best practices within the housing and homelessness sector in Canada.
- Other duties and special projects, as assigned, to advance the mission of reducing homelessness in Canada.
Work Environment, Salary, and Travel
- This position can be located anywhere in Canada, with preference for a location easily accessible to an international airport.
- This position requires the ability to work from a virtual/home office location without standard office support.
- Travel up to 20 days per year for community visits and meetings may be required.

- Five weeks of paid annual vacation (plus additional paid winter break week and other bonus days off throughout the year) and up to 12 sick leave days per year.

- The hiring salary range is $74,200-$80,000, with annual increases subject to performance-based merit increases, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including a retirement savings plan.
Qualifications
- Passion for the mission to end homelessness with an unwavering belief in its possibility and a sense of urgency to effect change.
- University degree in a relevant field of study (e.g., Computer Science) or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Certified or experienced (minimum of 3 years) in basic programming (e.g., Python).
- Minimum of 3 years in data management, demonstrating proficiencies in querying and manipulating complex data sets.
- Ability to integrate data from various sources (internal and external) to create a comprehensive data ecosystem.
- Strong skills in data analysis, including experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft, including Power BI, is preferred.
- Exceptional communication skills with experience in data visualizations to communicate complex data to audiences of varying data literacy levels.
- Experience with Homelessness Management Information Systems (e.g., HIFIS) is preferred.
- Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
